OUR STORY
The Couch was built for people who are tired of feeling stuck.
We've sat with a lot of people over the years. People who were carrying something heavy and didn't know where to set it down. People who loved their partners deeply but couldn't seem to stop hurting each other. Parents who were exhausted. Individuals who had tried everything and still felt like nothing was changing.
Therapy should give you something you can actually use, not just insight you can't do anything with.
That's why Sara Yarbrough started The Couch. Every therapist here is trained to give you real, practical tools alongside the emotional support. We believe insight is the beginning, not the destination. And we believe the relationship you build with your therapist, your partner, your family, is the ground that makes change possible.
We're based in Spokane Valley, WA, and we see clients both in person and via telehealth across Washington State.
WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT
More than just talk therapy.
A lot of practices offer a place to process. We offer that, and practical skills you can carry into your life, your home, and your relationships.
Rooted in Relationship
We believe human connection drives lasting change. Not symptom management. Not coping strategies alone. Real, lasting change happens in the context of relationship, and that's what we build.

Everyday Practical Tools
Every session should give you something you can use at home. We're not just interested in insight. We want you to walk out with skills, language, and strategies you can actually reach for.

Compassionate Care
A space that feels genuinely safe and grounded. No shame, no clinical distance, no jargon. We meet you where you are and treat you like the whole, complicated person you actually are.

Community Connected
We partner with Valley Real Life because we believe mental health care should extend beyond the therapy session and into everyday life.
Meet the people who will walk with you.
Every therapist at The Couch brings genuine warmth, strong clinical training, and a real belief that people can change. We're a growing team of five, each bringing their own area of depth.
YOUR FIRST SESSION
You don't need to have it
figured out before you show up.
1
Low pressure from the start
There's no intake paperwork to stumble through in the room. Just a conversation. Your therapist will ask a few questions to get to know you and understand what brought you in.
2
You share at your own pace
Nothing is required except showing up. You decide how much to share and when. Most people find it easier than they expected once they're in the room.
3
We figure out the fit together
By the end of your first session you'll have a sense of whether the therapist feels right, what to work on, and what next sessions could look like. No pressure to commit before you're ready.
4
Most clients start weekly
Weekly sessions tend to build the most momentum early on. As things stabilize, many shift to every other week. We'll talk through what fits your goals and schedule.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP
Mental health care that extends beyond the session.
We believe healing doesn't happen only in a therapy office. It happens in community, in the places where you live your actual life.
That's why we partner with Valley Real Life, a local church and community anchor in Spokane Valley, WA.
Together, we work to make mental health support more accessible, less isolated, and more integrated into everyday life.
