LICENSED MARRIAGE & FAMILY THERAPIST
Sara Yarbrough
Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) #LF61341382
Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) #LH61158781
Mental or Behavioral Telehealth Counselor in Idaho #1881103
Sara Yarbrough is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) based in Spokane Valley, WA, with more than 10 years of clinical counseling experience.
She specializes in sexual addiction recovery, betrayal trauma therapy, and couples counseling, and is certified through the American Association for Sex Addiction Therapy (AASAT). Sara also holds Gottman Method training, one of the most research-backed approaches to couples therapy available today.
What makes Sara genuinely uncommon is the combination of clinical depth and lived pastoral experience she brings to the room. More than 20 years of ministry work means she understands not just the psychological dimensions of addiction and relational breakdown, but the spiritual weight, the identity questions, and the shame that so often goes unspoken in more clinical settings. She has a particular heart for ministry leaders and faith community members who carry impossible expectations alongside real struggles.
Sara works with individuals, couples, and blended families navigating pornography addiction, infidelity recovery, chronic conflict, and ADHD. She uses Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman Method techniques, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy to help clients move from survival mode to something that actually looks like thriving. She also serves as clinical supervisor for The Couch's counseling interns.
Sara is currently accepting new clients at The Couch in Spokane Valley, WA, located at 16114 E Indiana Ave, Suite 310. She is also licensed to provide telehealth sessions to clients in Idaho.

What working with Sara actually looks like.
HER APPROACH
Sara takes time to fully understand what you're carrying before she ever starts teaching skills, because the right tools only work when they fit the right problem. She won't rush to solutions before she understands what's really going on.
Her style is a mix of listening and gently moving forward. She creates space for you to feel heard and understood, and when the time is right, she helps you build real skills you can actually use. She's looking for the lightbulb moments, the ones where something finally clicks and you understand why you do what you do, why you keep responding the same way to the same situations. Those moments can't be forced, but Sara knows how to create the conditions where they happen.
With couples especially, she comes into the room with one clear intention: she wants you to win. Not just survive the conflict. Not just communicate slightly better. Win, however you and your partner define that. She never wants to feel like a referee managing the fight. She wants to be the coach helping you figure out how to stop having it.
When things get hard in session, whether someone shuts down, gets frustrated, or wants to give up, Sara reads that as a signal to slow down and listen more carefully. It usually means something important hasn't felt safe enough to be said yet.
By the end of your work together, Sara hopes you feel equipped to navigate whatever life puts in front of you.
A good fit for: Couples in serious conflict or betrayal recovery, motivated individuals ready to do the work, those with a faith background looking for a therapist who understands that world.
