LICENSED MARRIAGE & FAMILY THERAPIST
Sara Yarbrough
Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) #LF61341382
Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) #LH61158781
As a marriage and family specialist serving the Spokane Valley area, Sara is passionate about walking alongside individuals caught in the grip of sexual addiction—helping them find freedom, rebuild trust with themselves, and develop the tools to live with integrity and purpose.
She understands that sexual addiction doesn't exist in a vacuum. It often shows up in the lives of ministry leaders carrying impossible expectations, couples facing conflict they don't know how to name, and individuals silently wrestling with shame they've never spoken aloud. Sara creates a space where that silence can break—without judgment, without platitudes, just honest, grounded support.
She brings something genuinely uncommon to the room: 10 years of clinical counseling experience alongside more than 20 years of pastoral ministry. That combination means she understands not just the clinical dimensions of addiction, but the human, spiritual, and relational layers that often fuel it and complicate recovery.
In addition to her client work, Sara serves as the clinical supervisor for The Couch's counseling interns, providing mentorship and professional development to the next generation of therapists.

What working with Sara actually looks like.
HER APPROACH
Sara takes time to fully understand what you're carrying before she ever starts teaching skills, because the right tools only work when they fit the right problem. She won't rush to solutions before she understands what's really going on.
Her style is a mix of listening and gently moving forward. She creates space for you to feel heard and understood, and when the time is right, she helps you build real skills you can actually use. She's looking for the lightbulb moments, the ones where something finally clicks and you understand why you do what you do, why you keep responding the same way to the same situations. Those moments can't be forced, but Sara knows how to create the conditions where they happen.
With couples especially, she comes into the room with one clear intention: she wants you to win. Not just survive the conflict. Not just communicate slightly better. Win, however you and your partner define that. She never wants to feel like a referee managing the fight. She wants to be the coach helping you figure out how to stop having it.
When things get hard in session, whether someone shuts down, gets frustrated, or wants to give up, Sara reads that as a signal to slow down and listen more carefully. It usually means something important hasn't felt safe enough to be said yet.
By the end of your work together, Sara hopes you feel equipped to navigate whatever life puts in front of you.
A good fit for: Couples in serious conflict or betrayal recovery, motivated individuals ready to do the work, those with a faith background looking for a therapist who understands that world.
